Thank you for considering a volunteer opportunity at the
San Diego Food Bank!

Below, you will find detailed information about our volunteer program and registration options for your upcoming volunteer activity!

Who can Volunteer?

The San Diego Food Bank relies on individuals and volunteer groups to help us in our warehouse, at food distribution sites, and at Food Bank events. Anyone can volunteer. Training is not required, and there are no time commitments. You may volunteer one time, or on a regular basis.

Online registration and check-in:

Volunteers are required to sign up for a shift using our online registration system. Once you have selected your shift, upon arrival, each volunteer is asked to “check-in” at our volunteer kiosks. If you are in need of supplementary documentation to verify the number of hours you worked, please bring the proper paperwork with you, and a Food Bank staff member will provide the necessary information and approval.

Volunteer projects and tasks:

Each shift lasts about three hours and involves a variety of projects and tasks. Volunteer projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning and packaging fresh produce for immediate distribution.
  • Inspecting, sorting, boxing, and labeling food donations.
  • Assembling food packages for our Senior Food Program, Moms & Children Food Program, Food Assistance Program, and our Food 4 Kids Backpack Program.

Please note: Volunteer tasks are pre-determined by staff and are selected on an “as needed” basis.

Registration for individual volunteers:

If you are a first-time volunteer, you will be asked to create a log-in and password when you sign up for your first shift on our volunteer registration system. Please be sure to store your log-in information for future use. Once registered and logged in, select your shift, and a confirmation email will be sent back to you. For returning volunteers, simply log in, select a shift, and you will receive a confirmation email.
